What is Pane?

Pane is a desktop environment specifically designed for software developers who work with terminal-based AI coding agents. It allows users to manage multiple agents at once, each with its own Git worktree and terminal, while integrating diffs, logs, an editor, and Git features into a single interface. The environment is compatible with a range of command-line agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Aider, Goose, and OpenCode, and also includes an orchestrator chat, a command-line interface, and an MCP server that helps in creating and managing workspaces. Developers can easily switch among Windows, macOS, and Linux systems, including the Windows Subsystem for Linux, and have the ability to connect to a controlled host remotely through a web browser. Pane is open source and is distributed under the AGPL-3.0 license, making it available at no cost; however, users must provide their own AI provider accounts or API keys to make full use of the service. Its intuitive design and comprehensive features significantly improve the coding workflow for developers, making it an invaluable tool in their toolkit. By streamlining the integration of multiple coding agents, Pane fosters an environment of efficiency and productivity.

The design philosophy of (E)JES Web prioritizes high performance and user satisfaction, resulting in a modern interface that reflects the responsive experience found in ISPF. Every display within (E)JES is fully functional, ensuring smooth user interaction. Moreover, (E)JES Web functions as an ultra-thin, entirely virtualized client, supported by an advanced server architecture that further amplifies its capabilities. This combination of features not only streamlines system management but also enhances the overall efficiency of operations within the z/OS JESplex environment.
