What is Saga DICOM Viewer?

The Saga DICOM Viewer is a free, web-based application that enables users to view .dcm files directly through their browser, eliminating the need for any software installation. Users can effortlessly drag and drop individual files or entire study folders onto the site, where the images are rendered locally, safeguarding user data while avoiding the necessity of account creation. This adaptable viewer supports various operating systems such as Mac, Windows, Chromebook, and Linux on all up-to-date browsers. Built on the open-source OHIF v3 framework and a Saga shell, this tool incorporates features such as image reviewing functions—including scrolling, window/level adjustments, panning/zooming, and basic measurement tools—a DICOM tag browser, and a tag editor equipped with VR-aware validation and save-as capabilities. Furthermore, it comes with a conformance validator that checks loaded files against the NEMA PS3 standard, identifying any inconsistencies and linking them to the appropriate sections of the specification. The viewer also includes a launcher that allows access to public studies from the OHIF demo dataset or NCI Imaging Data Commons, in addition to facilitating connections to a DICOMweb server. Targeted at integration engineers, researchers, students, and clinicians needing a swift way to access or validate DICOM files, it is important to note that this tool is not designed for diagnostic use. Developed by Saga IT, a consulting and software company with a focus on healthcare IT solutions, this viewer showcases their dedication to making medical imaging more accessible. Its intuitive interface coupled with powerful features positions the Saga DICOM Viewer as an essential asset for those working within the medical imaging sector, making it easier than ever to navigate and analyze DICOM files efficiently.

What is OmniDICOM?

OmniDICOM is a multifunctional desktop application designed for DICOM viewing and metadata editing, catering to educational and research needs on both Mac and Windows operating systems. Users have the ability to access local studies, compare series, take measurements, and watch cine sequences, while also inspecting or modifying DICOM tag information. The app is equipped with sophisticated viewing features such as multiplanar reconstruction (MPR), maximum intensity projection (MIP), 3D volume rendering, and digital subtraction angiography (DSA). In addition, it offers PACS and DICOMweb capabilities that enhance study transfers, along with diverse export options for images, videos, DICOM files, and STL models. The Professional version includes a processing bench that comes with a variety of stacked filters and analytical instruments like histograms, profiles, and time-intensity curves. Users can try the Professional edition for 14 days at no cost, although it has export limitations, and to unlock full access, a paid license is required. The Basic subscription is priced at $10 monthly or $99 yearly per machine, whereas the Professional plan costs $45 per month or $449 annually. It’s crucial to recognize that OmniDICOM is not intended to be a medical device and should not be used for any diagnostic or clinical decision-making, reinforcing its position as a valuable resource for research and educational purposes. Therefore, users must be mindful of the software's intended use and its limitations to maximize its benefits.
