What is Sengi Runners?

Sengi operates as a managed runner service for GitHub Actions, facilitating Linux CI tasks on newly set up Ubuntu 24.04 x64 virtual machines. Teams are able to easily connect their GitHub repositories and assign relevant workflow jobs to Sengi by modifying the runner label, all while preserving their existing Actions workflows, steps, secrets, logs, and triggers. The service offers a range of machine configurations such as 2-vCPU/8-GB, 4-vCPU/16-GB, and 8-vCPU/32-GB, accommodating various tasks including builds, tests, Docker workflows, and the execution of multiple jobs simultaneously. Each user account receives a monthly allowance of 3,000 standard-2-equivalent minutes that can be utilized across various runner sizes, and initiating usage does not require a payment card. Charges for job execution are based on per-minute usage according to the chosen machine size, while boot and teardown durations are not subject to billing. Sengi is designed for developers and DevOps teams in search of an uncomplicated managed Linux execution solution for GitHub Actions, significantly reducing the burden of maintaining their own runner fleet. Currently, the service is limited to support Ubuntu 24.04 on x64 architecture, which provides a consistent environment for all users. As a result, Sengi presents an attractive option for teams aiming to enhance their CI/CD workflows in a streamlined manner, ultimately driving efficiency and productivity. Additionally, the straightforward setup process allows teams to focus more on development and less on infrastructure management.

What is Drone?

Configuration as code enables the establishment of pipelines through a clear and concise file that can be easily added to your git repository. Each pipeline step executes in a specific Docker container, which is fetched automatically during the execution process. Drone seamlessly integrates with multiple source code management systems, including popular platforms such as GitHub, GitHubEnterprise, Bitbucket, and GitLab. It accommodates a diverse array of operating systems and architectures, such as Linux x64, ARM, ARM64, and Windows x64. Moreover, Drone is adaptable with programming languages, allowing it to work efficiently with any language, database, or service that runs in a Docker container, and it provides the option to use thousands of public Docker images or to create custom ones. The platform also supports the development and sharing of plugins, utilizing containers to integrate pre-configured steps into your pipeline, offering users the option to choose from hundreds of existing plugins or to create unique ones. Additionally, Drone enhances the customization process by allowing users to set up specific access controls, create approval workflows, manage sensitive information, extend YAML syntax, and much more. This extensive flexibility enables teams to fine-tune their workflows according to their unique operational demands and preferences, fostering greater efficiency and collaboration within development projects. Ultimately, this adaptability positions Drone as a powerful tool for modern software development practices.
