What is Sidekick?

Sidekick allows users to connect their Android smartphones with a Mac, facilitating convenient access to specific phone features straight from the desktop environment. After a straightforward initial pairing using a QR code, the associated applications create a direct link over the same local Wi-Fi network. This connection employs TLS 1.3 with certificate pinning, ensuring that it operates independently of cloud services or user accounts. With Sidekick, users can replicate their phone's screen within a Mac window, receive and interact with notifications (depending on Android app support), transfer files and photos bi-directionally, and share clipboard contents with ease. In addition, it provides caller alerts and enables users to make calls from their Mac while maintaining audio on the phone, as well as controlling media playback. Users can also respond to specific message notifications from their Mac, enhancing their multitasking capabilities. It's important to mention that screen sharing necessitates approval from the Android device for each session initiated by the Mac. The application is compatible with Macs featuring Apple silicon that run macOS 11 or newer and Android devices using version 10 or above. At this stage, Sidekick is offered in an invitation-only beta phase, showcasing its potential to significantly boost productivity across different devices. This innovative approach to device integration highlights the growing trend of enhancing user experience through seamless connectivity.

What is DejaVu?

DejaVu is an innovative application tailored for Mac users, serving as both a private screen-memory tool and a desktop search engine. Upon activation, it captures and compresses screen changes, allowing the extraction and storage of text displayed on the screen so that users can effortlessly find previously encountered information by entering specific words, numbers, or phrases. The results of these searches detail the app, the window in which the information appeared, and the corresponding timestamp, while a timeline feature permits users to navigate their activity hour by hour; additionally, the My Day section presents a summary of usage organized by application and project. All captured screen memory is securely stored on the user's Mac, encrypted for safety, and is accessible only through Touch ID for enhanced security. Users can also pause the capture feature, exclude certain apps and websites, and export their memory in common formats. The free version retains memory for three days on the primary display, while the Pro edition provides unlimited memory across all displays, includes browser extensions, allows for data export, offers smart collections, and features an exclusive tool called Ask Your Memory, which provides direct answers on the device. DejaVu is designed to be compatible with macOS 26 Tahoe or newer, functioning on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs; however, the feature that generates AI-written responses requires the use of Apple Intelligence, available exclusively on Apple silicon devices. This application not only streamlines the management of screen activity but also enhances the efficiency of retrieving critical information, ensuring users have a seamless experience while navigating their digital interactions. By facilitating better organization and access to previously viewed content, DejaVu ultimately empowers users to optimize their productivity and engagement with their devices.
