What is SmarTTY?

SmarTTY is a multifunctional and complimentary SSH client that allows users to manage multiple tabs, which facilitates straightforward file and directory transfers through SCP while enabling direct file editing. It comes equipped with an intelligent terminal that boasts auto-completion, a file navigation panel, and a user-friendly interface for package management, among other useful features. Most SSH servers typically support up to 10 sub-sessions per connection, and SmarTTY enhances this capability by allowing users to open new tabs without requiring multiple windows or repetitive login attempts. Furthermore, it provides automatic suggestions for files, folders, and previously used commands, along with an intuitive panel that aids in browsing files within the current directory. Users can easily navigate through clickable links within command outputs, thereby improving efficiency. The application also streamlines package management through a simple GUI for APT and YUM, and it offers an easy way to explore remote directory structures with a layout similar to that of Windows. File transfers are simplified with the ability to upload and download single files via the SCP protocol, in addition to the option for recursive transfers of entire directories. Moreover, SmarTTY enables rapid sending and receiving of directories utilizing on-the-fly TAR, while providing a native Windows file editing experience that includes automatic conversion from CRLF to LF and the option to use 'sudo' for saving changes to protected files, further enhancing the user experience. With its rich array of features, SmarTTY not only caters to the needs of casual users but also proves to be a powerful tool for professionals in the field. Its ability to integrate various functionalities into a single platform makes it an appealing choice for anyone looking to streamline their SSH client experience.

What is PuTTYTray?

The software provides multiple options for minimizing to the system tray, including the use of CTRL + minimize, at startup, or consistently, and allows users to customize icons. It alerts users with a flashing tray icon when a bell signal is received and offers adjustable window transparency settings. Furthermore, users can take advantage of URL hyperlinking, portability, and the capability to save session configurations in files, making it convenient for usage on devices like USB drives, akin to portaPuTTY. The 'always on top' functionality can be easily accessed from the system menu, and support for Android ADB is also integrated. Additionally, sessions can be loaded from files through the command line, with the software automatically opting for 'sessions from file' when registry-stored sessions are unavailable. Now built upon PuTTY 0.61, it includes updates such as Windows 7 Jumplist and Aero support. The executables have been signed to mitigate Internet Explorer's security warnings, accomplished without requiring any alterations to the code. A newly added URLs submenu enhances keyboard accessibility while maintaining compatibility with older systems. The application also enjoys a code signing certificate and timestamping, effectively resolving previous certificate-related issues. Originally compiled by Barry Haanstra, the project is currently managed by Chris West (Faux), who is dedicated to its continuous maintenance and upgrades. This tool's development reflects a strong commitment to improving user experience and accessibility across a range of platforms, showcasing an ongoing evolution aimed at meeting the diverse needs of its users.
