What is SpeedOf.Me?

SpeedOf.Me is the free, browser-based internet speed test people reach for when they want to know what their connection actually delivers. It reports download speed, upload speed, latency and jitter on any device with a browser, in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Arabic and Persian, with nothing to install. The numbers come from a single stream measured in the browser against neutral third-party CDN edge servers in over 130 locations, the same open-internet route that carries everyday browsing, downloads and video calls. That is what we call Real-World Speed, and it has been measured the same way since the service launched in December 2011 as the first HTML5 speed test. Businesses license the engine through the SpeedOf.Me API, in production since 2013. A few lines of JavaScript put a fully branded speed test inside a website, product or piece of hardware, with no test infrastructure to build or operate. Teams use it for white-label testing, benchmarking network quality across a user base, choosing adaptive streaming quality, diagnosing ISP and connectivity complaints, estimating transfer times and instrumenting embedded and IoT devices. An analytics dashboard breaks usage down by country, city, device and speed. Plans open with a free 30-day trial and scale to enterprise volumes. The same account reaches AI agents and automation through the @speedofme/mcp package, which serves as an MCP server, a CLI and a Node SDK. Published research rounds it out: the Internet Speed Atlas covers 119 countries, alongside half-yearly State of Internet Speed reports.

What is Opensignal?

Opensignal conducts speed assessments to gauge the effectiveness of your mobile network and the robustness of your signal. This evaluation involves a 5-second download test, a 5-second upload test, and a ping test, all designed to provide a dependable measurement of the internet speeds you can anticipate. By leveraging widely recognized internet CDN servers, these tests compile valuable data. The final speed score is calculated from the median of the gathered samples. In addition to these evaluations, Opensignal also offers a video test that plays a 15-second clip to assess and document loading times, buffering events, and playback speed issues in real time, giving users insight into their performance with both HD and SD video content across their networks. Furthermore, Opensignal provides an intuitive network coverage map that allows users to pinpoint the best coverage and the quickest speeds available, showcasing signal strength at street level based on data sourced from local users' tests. The accompanying cell tower compass indicates the direction of the closest or strongest signal, aiding in the effective use of broadband and signal-boosting technologies, which helps to ensure that your connectivity requirements are fulfilled. Overall, with its comprehensive tools and features, Opensignal empowers users to enhance and navigate their mobile internet experience more effectively. This proactive approach allows individuals to make informed decisions regarding their network usage and connectivity options.
