What is Symantec Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA)?

Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) represents a Software as a Service (SaaS) model that enhances security and provides meticulous management of access to corporate assets, whether hosted on-premises or in the cloud. By following Zero Trust Access principles, it establishes direct connections between endpoints without requiring agents or appliances, thereby effectively mitigating potential threats at the network level. This innovative solution effectively hides all corporate resources within the network, ensuring a complete separation between data centers, end-users, and the internet. Consequently, this method minimizes the attack surface at the network layer, significantly diminishing the chances for lateral movement and network-based threats that often affect conventional solutions such as VPNs and Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs). As a fundamental component of a holistic Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) framework, Symantec's ZTNA provides users with simple and secure access strictly to the applications they need. It accommodates a range of vital scenarios, ensuring that access remains not only secure but also customized to fulfill specific requirements. In summary, ZTNA enables application-level connectivity while offering substantial protection for all resources, thus ensuring that organizational data is consistently protected from unauthorized access. Moreover, its innovative architecture positions ZTNA as an essential solution in today's evolving cybersecurity landscape.

What is CloudConnexa?

Organizations moving away from legacy VPN appliances toward zero-trust security can turn to CloudConnexa, OpenVPN's fully managed, cloud-native platform combining Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) with Security Service Edge (SSE) functionality. Instead of standing up their own servers, customers get an on-demand private overlay network, effectively a distributed router paired with a next-gen firewall running in the cloud, built across a full-mesh backbone of 30+ regions worldwide that keeps latency low and connections resilient. To bring private resources into that network, admins deploy Connectors: a Network Connector links an entire site (an office, data center, or an AWS/Azure virtual network), while a Host Connector plugs in a single machine or IoT device. Each connected Host runs OpenVPN client software to publish its services. All traffic, whether from remote employees, branch sites, or cloud workloads, travels through encrypted OpenVPN tunnels, and Linux endpoints can enable Data Channel Offload (DCO) to push more throughput. Who can reach what is controlled through role- and group-based policy tied to identity, backed by SAML, LDAP, and SCIM connections to existing directories, so access stays scoped to exactly what each user needs. Routing by application domain hides the true IP of backend servers, delivering microsegmentation without revealing infrastructure. Security is rounded out by the Cyber Shield suite: DNS-based filtering across 40+ threat categories, IDS/IPS protection, device posture enforcement (DIVE), and two-factor login. Logging, SIEM export, and alerting give admins the audit trail they need, and every setting lives inside one cloud console.
