What is TalkText?

TalkText is a cutting-edge dictation tool that leverages artificial intelligence to enhance productivity by converting spoken words into polished text across various macOS applications. Users can simply press 'option + space' to activate the dictation function, and TalkText adeptly refines the spoken input by removing superfluous filler words and correcting mistakes, resulting in clear and professional writing. Furthermore, it features a 'restyle' option, allowing users to select any text segment and instruct TalkText to rewrite it in a desired tone or style, such as increasing empathy or confidence. With support for more than 30 languages, TalkText ensures accurate transcriptions with appropriate formatting, including capitalization and punctuation. Prioritizing user privacy, the software processes audio in real-time without storing any data or using it for model training purposes. The service offers a free tier that allows users to transcribe up to 2,000 words each month, with options available for upgrading to unlimited usage, catering to diverse needs. This adaptability ensures users can select a plan that effectively meets their dictation needs. Additionally, TalkText’s user-friendly interface makes it easy to navigate for both casual and professional users alike.

What is Apple Dictation?

Apple Dictation is a built-in feature in macOS that enables users to input text vocally in any application that accepts text entry. After activating the feature, users can start it by using the Microphone key, a custom keyboard shortcut, or by choosing Start Dictation, and they can end it by pressing the Escape key, the same shortcut, or the Microphone key once more. For Apple silicon Mac users, it is possible to continue typing while using dictation; the feature will resume listening once the user stops typing. Users can also give voice commands to add emoji, punctuation, new lines, and paragraphs, with the system automatically inserting commas, periods, and question marks in supported languages. Dictation can accommodate text of any length and will automatically stop after 30 seconds of silence. If macOS encounters uncertainty with a word, it highlights the text for users to select an alternative or correct it manually. Furthermore, users can activate multiple Dictation languages and switch between them seamlessly while speaking, along with the option to choose their desired microphone or let macOS select one automatically. This versatility not only enhances productivity but also significantly improves accessibility across various macOS applications, making it an invaluable tool for users.
