What is Trafficware ATMS?

ATMS builds upon the robust framework of Trafficware's top-tier central transportation management system, delivering a powerful solution for the oversight and control of an agency's traffic management and intelligent transportation system (ITS) infrastructure. Featuring a modern and intuitive interface, ATMS allows agencies to unify traffic network data into a single platform, offering a thorough and up-to-the-minute view of traffic operations. Users can effectively supervise and manage various traffic and ITS components critical to maintaining safe and efficient traffic movement. While ATMS operates as a comprehensive stand-alone central management system, it also functions as a flexible software platform that supports additional capabilities such as adaptive signal control, fleet management, transit signal priority, and emergency response prioritization. Each of these modules is designed to deliver advanced tools and functionalities while leveraging the existing strengths of the ATMS platform. Moreover, Trafficware distinguishes itself as one of the select few ATMS providers that integrates smoothly with well-known mapping services like Google Maps and Bing Maps, thereby enhancing situational awareness for traffic management agencies. This seamless integration not only reinforces ATMS's status as a premier choice for agencies aiming to modernize their traffic management systems, but also ensures that users have access to the most relevant geographic information possible. As agencies continue to face increasing demands for efficient traffic management, ATMS proves to be an invaluable resource in meeting those challenges head-on.

What is Siemens SCOOT?

SCOOT functions as a sophisticated proactive system that adjusts traffic signal timings in real-time to better facilitate vehicles as they near intersections. Unlike other systems that depend on data collected from traffic leaving the intersection, which often results in timing changes that are implemented after the fact, SCOOT uses an online traffic simulation model to assess various timing options in real-time and chooses the most effective one. Many alternative systems are limited to making adjustments based on predefined parameter thresholds, such as traffic volume or the quantity of arrivals during green lights, which restricts their ability to explore multiple timing strategies without prior effectiveness testing. In contrast, SCOOT continuously fine-tunes cycle lengths, splits, and offsets with each signal cycle, making small, controlled adjustments that enhance traffic flow. On the flip side, numerous other systems tend to implement larger changes less frequently, sometimes every ten minutes, and some do not even focus on optimizing cycle lengths at all. This lack of agility makes these traditional systems far less capable of adapting to the swiftly changing nature of traffic conditions. As a result, SCOOT proves to be especially beneficial in urban areas where traffic patterns can shift dramatically and unpredictably. Its ability to make real-time adjustments helps to reduce congestion and improve overall traffic efficiency, making it a vital tool for modern urban traffic management.
