What is VisualEditor?

The VisualEditor initiative led by the Editing team aims to create a reliable rich-text editor tailored for MediaWiki. This editor, which operates as a MediaWiki extension with support from the Parsoid project for HTML+RDFa, is architected to ensure that its fundamental features can function independently of MediaWiki, Parsoid, or Node.js. Since its launch in 2020, VisualEditor has been available to all users on MediaWiki.org and is also implemented across nearly all versions of Wikipedia and Wikivoyage. For numerous other Wikimedia projects and languages, it is provided as an optional Beta Feature for those logged in. While VisualEditor can be accessed in certain namespaces, including the main namespace, it is generally not available in discussion or template namespaces. One of the major hurdles facing the Wikimedia movement is the decline in the growth of new contributors. In response to this challenge, VisualEditor was introduced to remove unnecessary technical barriers associated with Wikimedia’s editing interface, which is critical for increasing the contributor base. By streamlining the editing experience, this initiative not only seeks to improve user satisfaction but also aims to create a more welcoming atmosphere for prospective contributors, ultimately fostering a thriving community. As a result, VisualEditor represents a significant step towards revitalizing engagement with Wikimedia projects.

What is ReactPage?

ReactPage is a sophisticated content editing platform specifically designed for React applications, enabling webmasters and content creators to easily construct their preferred content using developer-provided components. This powerful solution includes a flexible RichText Editor powered by Slate, a responsive 12-column grid system, and features such as drag-and-drop cell management, undo/redo options, support for copy commands and keyboard shortcuts, as well as compatibility with multiple languages. Users have the freedom to add any custom components they wish, which greatly enhances functionality. With a user-friendly API that mimics a typical form field, ReactPage can be effortlessly integrated into various projects; simply pass the current value from your database and handle updates via the onChange event for seamless data management. A key benefit of ReactPage is its performance optimization, as it loads only the essential components needed for display, resulting in a slim and efficient bundle size. The editor supports a broad array of content types; each cell can accommodate text, images, videos, and any custom elements created through unique CellPlugins, significantly enriching the editing process. In essence, ReactPage enables users to create engaging and dynamic content with remarkable ease and adaptability, making it an invaluable tool for modern web development. Moreover, its intuitive design encourages creativity and streamlines the workflow for content creators.
