What is Zim?

Zim is a highly adaptable graphical text editor tailored for the management of a collection of wiki pages. Each page can host links to other pages, feature primary formatting, and integrate images for enhanced content. The organization of these pages mimics a folder-like structure similar to an outliner, and users can also attach files as needed. To initiate a new page, one can simply create a link to a non-existent page, making the process intuitive and hassle-free. All information is saved in plain text format using wiki syntax, which guarantees straightforward access and editing capabilities. Its functionality is further enhanced by a range of plugins that provide additional tools, including a task list manager, an equation editor, a tray icon, and support for version control. Zim supports various markup styles, allowing for the use of headings, bullet points, and text formatting options such as bold, italic, and highlighted text. This markup is preserved as wiki text, permitting easy editing in other text editors if necessary. With its autosave feature, users can switch between pages and follow links without worrying about losing any progress. Zim is not only ideal for archiving notes and keeping a daily or weekly journal but also serves as a reliable tool for taking notes in meetings and lectures, as well as organizing tasks, demonstrating its versatility in numerous contexts. Moreover, it empowers users to optimize their workflow and boost productivity through its intuitive interface and extensive range of features, making it an invaluable tool for many.

What is MojoPad?

MojoPad is a local-first desktop wiki for macOS that helps users turn notes, documents, research, plans, and books into an interconnected personal knowledge system. It is built around frictionless linking, where typing the name of a page automatically creates a live connection and selecting any phrase can instantly turn it into a new page. The app avoids folder-heavy organization by letting the wiki structure grow naturally as users write. MojoPad’s graph view gives users a visual map of their document, showing pages as nodes, links as edges, and important hubs as the wiki expands. Search includes instant results, quote searches, wildcard searches, and semantic search that can find related pages based on meaning rather than only matching words. Users can drag in images, files, PDFs, ePubs, and web archives, then export content to PDF, EPUB, HTML, Word, plain text, or a static site with RSS. MojoPad also supports importing full VoodooPad .vpdoc files, including pages, links, images, diagrams, PDFs, bookmarks, and web archives. Its AI features run locally through Ollama, allowing users to ask questions about their wiki or imported books and receive grounded answers with clickable sources. Privacy is central to the product, with no accounts, no API keys, no token billing, no telemetry, and no page content leaving the machine. The app stores documents as folders of plain JSON and original files, which can sit in locations such as Dropbox, iCloud Drive, or an external drive. With AES-256 encryption, daily notes, global capture, automatic backups, version history, trash recovery, and a one-time license, MojoPad gives Mac users a private and flexible replacement for older personal wiki tools.
