What is boat?

Boat provides a powerful cloud-based platform featuring virtual machines and persistent sandboxes tailored for the effective management of enduring AI agents, allowing users to easily instantiate thousands of cloud environments that come equipped with web browsers and persistent storage, thus removing the complexities associated with infrastructure management. Each sandbox operates as a fully functional Ubuntu Linux virtual machine, granting SSH and SCP access, Docker support, dedicated IPv4 or IPv6 addresses, a seamless 60 fps virtual desktop experience, and quick disk-level forking capabilities derived from snapshots. With essential tools such as Docker, VS Code, Chrome, Ghostty, GitHub CLI, Rust, Node.js, and Bun pre-installed, users can effortlessly engage with any programming language, tool, or workflow. Boat is designed to be interoperable with multiple agents like Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode, and it provides various tools to prompt, monitor, and manage agent environments remotely via its command-line interface, HTTP API, and SDKs available in Python and TypeScript. Users have the capability to execute commands, transfer files, and keep track of agent communications, while also being able to host applications that are accessible through public HTTPS links. Furthermore, integrated desktops and web browsers enhance productivity, making this solution not only a means to streamline AI agent management but also a catalyst for a more effective development environment for users engaged in a wide range of projects. The comprehensive nature of this platform ultimately supports innovation and collaboration among developers by providing the necessary tools and resources to tackle complex challenges.

What is Sprites?

Sprites by Fly.io is a platform for creating stateful sandbox environments that run arbitrary code inside hardware-isolated Linux computers. A Sprite is designed to answer the question of where to safely run a blob of code, whether that code comes from an AI agent, a developer workflow, a user-uploaded binary, or an application process. Unlike short-lived stateless sandboxes, Sprites are persistent environments that can keep files, state, and execution context across runs. The platform supports checkpoint and restore so workloads can pause, resume, and recover without rebuilding everything from scratch. Sprites use a fast directly attached NVMe filesystem for active work and continuously sync that filesystem to durable external object storage. This storage model gives developers a normal Linux disk experience while supporting durable persistence and automatic growth. Developers can install the Sprites CLI, log in, create a Sprite, run commands, and connect directly to a Sprite console. The platform also provides a REST API and language support for JavaScript, Go, Elixir, and Python. Sprites include capabilities around persistence, checkpoints, Sprite URLs, sandbox VMs, and network policy for controlling how environments run and connect. Pricing is based on actual usage across CPU hours, memory hours, hot storage, and cold storage, making it practical for bursty workloads like coding agents or lightweight web apps. By combining hardware isolation, Linux compatibility, stateful persistence, checkpointing, durable storage, APIs, and usage-based billing, Sprites gives developers a flexible execution layer for AI agents, sandboxed code, and persistent application environments.
