What is specgit?

Specgit is a visual editing tool tailored for collaborative teams utilizing GitHub, streamlining the Git experience for various roles such as product managers, UX researchers, and technical writers. It offers a familiar document editor interface that simplifies the process of composing and formatting documents, making it accessible to all team members. Each document saved is attributed to the author's GitHub username, which supports real-time editing and facilitates inline comments to enhance collaboration. When a document reaches its final version, specgit assists in generating a pull request, allowing engineers to review the content directly in GitHub. The review process includes a thorough reading of the document and the opportunity to provide constructive feedback, while the triage feature effectively manages comments and resolves ongoing discussions. Changes to the document are only implemented after receiving clear approval from relevant team members. Furthermore, specgit integrates with Obsidian vaults, ensuring that the original formatting of saved files is maintained. GitHub serves as the definitive repository, with specgit not retaining duplicates of documents or comments. Users can access the Free plan, which permits one repository and up to five publications monthly without the need for a credit card, while the Pro plan is available at $8 per editing seat each month, allowing free viewing and commenting for all users. This structured approach guarantees that teams can work together efficiently while navigating their documentation tasks with ease, ultimately enhancing productivity and communication within the group. Additionally, the intuitive design of specgit encourages a smoother workflow that can adapt to various team dynamics.

What is MergeMe?

MergeMe seamlessly integrates GitHub pull requests and GitLab merge requests into Slack, offering an efficient notification card that continuously updates for each PR/MR. Unlike the official Slack integrations for GitHub or GitLab that create a new message for every event, MergeMe refreshes a single message as its status changes—from opened to under review to approved and finally merged. During the review process, any comments are shown as replies in a thread under the notification card, which helps keep all feedback neatly organized and easily accessible. Additionally, MergeMe supports various code hosting services, such as GitHub, GitLab, and even self-hosted GitLab instances. Users have the ability to connect multiple git sources within a single Slack workspace, allowing them to assign each repository or project to specific Slack channels. It also maps usernames from GitHub and GitLab to Slack users to ensure effective notifications via @mentions for reviewers, while employing label-based routing to sort bugs, features, and documentation efforts into different channels. The setup is designed to be user-friendly and quick, taking approximately five minutes; users simply need to connect their Slack account, link their git provider through OAuth, a GitHub App, or a webhook URL for self-hosted setups, and configure the desired channel mappings. Importantly, MergeMe operates exclusively on webhook payloads, ensuring that it does not access any private source code. For users on the Free Hobby plan, the service offers one channel mapping and accommodates up to five users, making it a fantastic entry point for teams looking to improve their development processes and collaboration. Furthermore, as teams grow and require more mappings and users, they can easily transition to higher-tier plans to unlock additional features and enhancements.
