When students are absent from class, it hinders their ability to stay prepared and engaged in their learning experiences. There is a strong correlation between higher attendance rates and enhanced academic success, as well as better graduation outcomes. This attendance team works closely with schools, families, students, and partners from Ramsey County to address attendance issues as soon as they arise. It is essential for parents or guardians to notify the school whenever their child is absent since not every absence will qualify as excused. To report an absence, parents must either contact the main office or provide a written note that clearly explains the reason for the absence. The attendance support process within SPPS unfolds in three stages, escalating in seriousness if a student continues to have unexcused absences. If a student reaches three unexcused absences, a notification letter is sent home to inform parents. If the student continues to miss school without a valid excuse, the school will begin the intervention process, which highlights the importance of regular attendance and the collaborative efforts required to support each student's educational path.
