What is DigitalProductPassport?
The Digital Product Passport, created by WIARA DAAS EOOD in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, is the European Union's specialized platform for managing product documentation. Manufacturers only need to enter their product details once in a single language, after which this information is converted into a static passport page that is distributed via a content delivery network (CDN) in all 24 official EU languages; consumers can access this information through a QR code or a GS1 Digital Link linked to the product itself.
To facilitate this, AI plays a crucial role in automating the translation, applying a language model to convert free-text entries during publication, with the translated terms saved for each manufacturer and integrated into the passport pages; every translated term carries a note indicating it was "automatically translated - view original," enabling human modifications for each language as needed.
This passport is versatile, applicable across numerous sectors, and we offer specific recommendations for the initial product categories defined by the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), such as iron and steel, textiles, furniture, and construction materials, supported by a data model that complies with CEN/CENELEC EN 18216-18223 standards.
The platform includes a complimentary tier that allows the creation of up to three passports, while additional paid options are available at monthly rates of 33, 125, and 419 EUR, inclusive of VAT, making it accessible for manufacturers of various scales. Ultimately, the Digital Product Passport not only enhances the efficiency of product information management but also contributes significantly to sustainability efforts across a range of industries, fostering a more responsible manufacturing ecosystem.
