No more manual SSH backups: Solid version control and "diff" tracking for multi-vendor switches

    Date: Feb 19 2026
    Summary

It moved us away from manual SSH backups to a proper version-controlled system. It’s not as "fancy" as Ansible, but it’s much faster to deploy for a team that doesn't want to write YAML all day.

    Positive

The "Configlet" feature is a massive time-saver for bulk ACL updates. I also love the "diff" view between startup and running configs; it caught a forgotten 'write mem' before a scheduled reboot.

    Negative

The TFTP/SCP transfer can be finicky on older hardware, often timing out during large backups. Also, the compliance reports are a bit rigid; trying to build custom regex rules is quite a headache.

    Reliable device insight and backups

    Date: Jun 17 2026
    Summary

Overall, ManageEngine's Network Configuration Manager is a tool we use daily. It has proven to be reliable, and accurate, and is especially helpful to get quick statuses on backups, and firmware vulnerabilities

    Positive

It is a no-brainer to import/integrate network devices, and the at-a-glance NCM UI is easy to navigate.

    Negative

When viewing a specific device in NCM there are times when I would like to SSH into the device directly from the device UI. Currently, there is not, and you need to navigate into an entirely separate menu (Tools) to do this.

Useful Tool for Automated Network Configuration Management

    Updated: Jul 20 2026
    Summary

My experience with ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager has been generally good. What stood out to me was how it brings configuration backups, device changes, compliance checks, and reports into one system. This makes it easier to keep track of network updates and understand what may have caused an issue. Being able to compare configurations and return to a previous version also adds a useful level of control. The setup takes some time to understand, especially when working with credentials and policies, but the platform becomes much easier to manage once everything is properly configured.

    Positive

ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager provides a central platform for managing and backing up configurations across different network devices. I particularly liked the automated configuration backups, configuration version history, change tracking, and comparison tools. These features make it easier to identify what changed, when it changed, and restore a trusted configuration when necessary. Its compliance reports, scheduled tasks, and support for devices from different vendors also reduce the amount of repetitive manual work required from an IT team.

    Negative

One drawback is that getting everything set up can feel a little demanding at first, especially when discovering devices and adjusting the monitoring settings. There are many technical options available, which is useful but can make the interface difficult to navigate for less experienced users. Some of the more advanced functions may also require higher-tier licensing, so the overall cost can increase as the number of managed devices grows.

    Date: Jun 17 2026
    Summary

For monitoring a large mixed environment of network devices, OpManager is dependable and easy to manage day to day, which is why it's in active use for 3+ hours daily on our end. That said, ManageEngine could improve the product by adding more granular

    Positive

OpManager assisting our environment of 1000+ network devices smoothly, and day-to-day management is convenient — the interface and workflows make it simple to keep tabs on device health and performance without a steep learning curve. It's become a core part of our daily operations, and we rely on it for several hours every day. Management and Alert customizations are easy and its more useful for us on day-to-day monitoring.

    Negative

The main limitation we've run into is customization for managing devices like Access Points under a Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) MIB. The options for fine-tuning how APs are monitored and managed within the WLC hierarchy feel restrictive compared to the flexibility we'd like for wireless infrastructure specificall

    Positive

Centralized Config Management: Manage all device configs (switches, routers, firewalls, etc.) from a single console, saving time and reducing errors.

Automated Backups & Rollbacks: Automatic schedule and real-time configuration backups, with quick rollback to previous versions if needed.

Real-Time Change Tracking: Detect and alert on unauthorized or unexpected configuration changes instantly.

A Reliable Tool That Simplified Network Configuration Management

    Date: Jul 21 2026
    Summary

Overall, ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager has become a dependable part of our network operations. It has helped us reduce configuration-related incidents, speed up troubleshooting, and improve change management across the organization. For teams responsible for maintaining enterprise networks, it's a practical solution that delivers consistent value without adding unnecessary complexity.

    Positive

As a Senior Network Engineer, I spend a lot of time managing network changes, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring our infrastructure remains stable. One of the biggest advantages I've found with ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager is that it gives us complete visibility into configuration changes without having to manually log into every device.

The feature I rely on most is the automated configuration backup. Knowing that every scheduled backup is available gives us confidence before making any planned network changes. On more than one occasion, we were able to restore a previous configuration within minutes after a routing policy update caused an unexpected issue. That alone has saved our team valuable troubleshooting time.

    Negative

If there's one area I'd like to see improved, it would be the user interface. It isn't difficult to use, but it could benefit from a more modern design and more customizable dashboards. The initial device onboarding also requires some planning in larger environments.

    Positive

ManageEngine NCM is a reliable and comprehensive network configuration management solution that simplifies network operations, improves visibility, enhances compliance, and reduces configuration-related risks. Its ease of use, broad vendor support, and robust automation capabilities make it a valuable tool for both small and large network operations teams. Negative

While ManageEngine NCM provides a rich set of features, locating specific options or settings can sometimes be challenging, especially for new users. The device onboarding process, including configuring and testing credentials, has a slight learning curve as relevant options are not always immediately easy to find. Improved navigation and search capabilities would further enhance the user experience.
