Great fun creating games in Roblox Studio, but with some issues and useless support

    Date: Jan 09 2023
    Summary

All in all, Roblox is absolutely fantastic and opens a whole world of fun. It warms my heart to see players out there actually enjoy the games I create :)
It's great that they release frequent new features, but I think they need to focus more on fixing existing bugs, and to provide devs with a working support instead of that crappy AI.

    Positive

Roblox Studio is feature-rich, yet easy to get started with. There are tons of assets, created by either Roblox or other users, to use in your games. Creating your own games in Roblox Studio is extremely fun and addictive.

As Roblox is a social platform with millions of users, it is well suited for multiplayer experiences and it is easy to publish your games for others to play.

Documentation is alright and if you get puzzled sometimes, you can almost always find someone who has had the same problem at the DevForum.

The rate at which new features are released is amazing! Roblox boasts some pretty advanced and nifty technology such as support for VR and motion capturing from videos.

    Negative

Support is driven by so called AI, which should rather be called artificial *un*intelligence as it fails to understand your issues like a 100% of the time and keeps repeating the same automated answers over and over again, which is not of any help at all.

Roblox do not seem to care much about bugs. Some bugs that would be easy to fix, remain unresolved for months and even years.

Lua is a bit of an odd language in my opinion. If I had got to choose I would have gone with some more "normal" language like C# or Javascript. Also, the script editor integrated in Roblox Studio lacks some great features found in VS Code, such as multicaret editing to mention one.

As Roblox is mostly targeted to kids, there are some restrictions limiting your creative freedom. Games like Leisure Suite Larry or GTA would have been banned on Roblox.

There are some issues with the GUI, like that the stacking of panels is reset when restarting Studio.

Roblox servers are often down, which seems to have gotten worse during the past year. The most annoying thing is that when Roblox is down, so is Roblox Studio and you can't develop anything during the downtime.

    Good games

    Updated: May 19 2022
    Summary

Overall, Roblox has great games (or should I say: experiences) for free. Roblox supports a wide variety of operating systems.

    Positive

You can make your experiences on Roblox for free using the Lua language.
There are a lot of experiences on Roblox that you can play, some free and some paid using Robux or Premium.

    Negative

If you have an account under 13 (if the birthday of the account is under 13 years), you can not say numbers, which is annoying.
