What is DroidAR?

DroidAR is a flexible framework crafted for creating Augmented Reality applications specifically on Android devices. It accommodates both marker-based and location-based AR experiences, making it suitable for a diverse range of applications. Users have the opportunity to try out a variety of demo applications that highlight its features (see the videos below). For the latest updates regarding DroidAR, please check our blog. The framework can be downloaded for free under the GNU GPL v3 license from our GitHub repository, with a commercial licensing option also available for those interested. Since its initial launch as an augmented reality development tool in 2010, DroidAR has seen ongoing improvements and the introduction of new features. This software development kit (SDK) empowers developers to effortlessly incorporate augmented reality capabilities into their own applications. We provide the SDK at no charge for non-commercial endeavors under an Open Source License. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the most widely used open-source augmented reality SDKs designed for the Android ecosystem, demonstrating its extensive popularity within the developer community. Additionally, the ongoing support and community contributions further enhance its robustness and feature set, ensuring that it remains relevant in the evolving landscape of augmented reality technology.

What is ARKit?

Developing remarkable augmented reality experiences for a diverse audience on iOS and iPadOS, which are recognized as top AR platforms globally, has become increasingly accessible. By leveraging powerful frameworks like ARKit and RealityKit, along with innovative resources such as Reality Composer and Reality Converter, transforming your ideas into augmented reality has never been easier. RealityKit 2 significantly improves your capacity to personalize and manage the AR experiences you create. With the introduction of new APIs, including Custom Rendering, Metal Shaders, and Post Processing, you can more effectively control the rendering pipeline and explore the freedom to design entirely new AR landscapes. Additionally, the newly available Object Capture API on macOS Monterey enables the rapid creation of unique 3D objects for AR using sophisticated photogrammetry methods in mere minutes. Reality Composer simplifies the development of interactive augmented reality experiences, making it possible for even those lacking 3D expertise to produce captivating content. Meanwhile, Reality Converter accelerates the conversion of your existing 3D models into the USDZ format, easing the integration of your creations into the AR environment. This remarkable suite of tools and frameworks empowers developers to explore and expand the limits of what can be achieved in the realm of augmented reality, opening up new avenues for creativity and innovation. As the technology continues to evolve, the potential applications for AR are virtually limitless.
