What is (E)JES?

(E)JES is a robust application designed for comprehensive systems management, providing users with essential tools to monitor, control, and manage their z/OS® JESplex environments, whether JES2 or JES3. The interface of (E)JES delivers real-time insights into job statuses, printer operations, queue management, and resource availability within the z/OS JESplex. Users can efficiently manage job activities and system resources by executing (E)JES commands directly through the interface. This powerful tool allows for monitoring printers, punches, functional subsystems, and NJE devices, while also granting control over WLM enclaves, MVS subsystems, and MVS dynamic exits. In addition, it offers robust support for searching and processing a variety of datasets, such as APF, LNKLST, LPALST, Parmlib, and Proclib. The design philosophy of (E)JES Web prioritizes high performance and user satisfaction, resulting in a modern interface that reflects the responsive experience found in ISPF. Every display within (E)JES is fully functional, ensuring smooth user interaction. Moreover, (E)JES Web functions as an ultra-thin, entirely virtualized client, supported by an advanced server architecture that further amplifies its capabilities. This combination of features not only streamlines system management but also enhances the overall efficiency of operations within the z/OS JESplex environment.

What is Bash?

Bash, an open-source Unix shell and command language, has established itself as the primary login shell for numerous Linux distributions. In addition to its presence on Linux, there is a variant of Bash available for Windows through the Windows Subsystem for Linux. Moreover, it is the default user shell in Solaris 11 and was previously the standard shell for Apple macOS versions until 10.3, when macOS Catalina shifted the default to zsh, although users can still opt for Bash on macOS. As a command processor, Bash allows users to enter commands through a text-based interface, which the system subsequently executes. It can also read and execute commands from files known as shell scripts. Bash is equipped with features commonly found in Unix shells, including wildcard matching, piping, here documents, command substitution, variables, and control mechanisms for testing conditions and performing iterations. Importantly, Bash complies with POSIX shell standards, promoting compatibility across various systems. Its extensive capabilities render it a favored tool for both casual users and experienced developers, contributing to its widespread adoption in scripting and automation tasks. Furthermore, the continued support and updates for Bash ensure its relevance in an ever-evolving technological landscape.
