What is ECAP?

A study conducted by researchers from the University of Kansas's School of Social Welfare aimed to evaluate the effects of the Enhanced Child Placement (ECAP) program on the outcomes for children and their families. This assessment utilized a pre/post analysis to compare placements facilitated by ECAP with those that occurred without its support. The summary of these research findings highlights significant insights. Furthermore, the team delved into more than 22,000 historical placement records to analyze how various characteristics affect the stability of placements. Based on these results, the algorithms used by ECAP were improved to boost its overall effectiveness. The Family and Child Team (FCT) is actively involved in ongoing research initiatives designed to enhance our understanding of how effective placement matching can lead to better outcomes for children and families. To foster continuous advancement, collaboration with experts from our Research Advisory Board is integral, employing predictive analytics to reduce trauma for children and families across the country through enhancements to the ECAP program. As we move forward, our dedication to refining our approaches is steadfast, ensuring alignment with the most effective practices in child welfare, and we remain open to new methodologies that could further benefit our efforts.

What is CareMatch?

CareMatch provides case workers and management teams with innovative tools that facilitate the initial connection of children in care to appropriate placements, significantly reducing the likelihood of requiring additional placements within the child welfare system. Professionals in child welfare acknowledge that minimizing the number of transitions in a foster child's experience can lead to improved academic performance, better emotional well-being, and a more seamless transition to independent living later on. By adopting a "first match / best match" methodology for each placement opportunity, organizations within the child welfare field are finding compelling reasons to prioritize CareMatch in their placement procedures, which ultimately enhances the experiences of children in care. This forward-thinking strategy not only optimizes operational processes but also creates a more nurturing atmosphere for at-risk youth, ensuring they receive the support they need for a brighter future. Such an approach lays the groundwork for lasting stability and encourages healthier relationships for these children.
