What is GNOME Terminal?

The Terminal is a terminal emulator application that allows users to access a UNIX shell environment, enabling the execution of installed programs on their systems. It features escape sequences that control cursor positioning and color displays. Frequently dubbed the Command Line Interface (CLI), a terminal serves as a text entry point on computers. With the discontinuation of various hardware terminals, such as the IBM 3270 and VT100, terminal emulators have become essential for replicating their capabilities. Each entry made in the Terminal for execution is referred to as a command. Users can run both command-line and graphical user interface (GUI) applications directly through the terminal environment. In instances where a program crashes unexpectedly without any warning or error messages, executing it in the Terminal can be advantageous. This method allows the program to output any error messages or debugging information in the Terminal window, which is helpful for submitting bug reports. Furthermore, using the Terminal can provide users with greater control and make troubleshooting more efficient, ultimately leading to a smoother computing experience. The ability to interact directly with the system at a low level often empowers users to resolve issues that may not be immediately apparent through standard graphical interfaces.

What is 1DevTool?

1DevTool empowers developers to reclaim over 40 minutes of their day by optimizing workflows and minimizing the frequent switching among various applications such as Chrome, terminals, AI tools, and note-taking software, all within a cohesive workspace that reduces interruptions. 🐛 Browser + AI — Say goodbye to the trouble of transferring errors to your AI terminals. With a single click, developers can forward console logs, network requests, errors, and screenshots straight to their AI assistant, removing the need to constantly switch between Chrome and terminal throughout the day. This feature is compatible with Claude, Codex, Gemini, and AMP, potentially saving around 30 seconds for each bug report submitted. ✍️ Agent Prompt Editor — Improve your prompts effortlessly while remaining in the terminal. This built-in prompt editor within the terminal facilitates easy @ mentioning of files, drag-and-drop image capabilities, and markdown formatting, allowing developers to save about 15 seconds on each prompt, which can accumulate to more than 7 minutes a day. 💾 Persistent Terminals — Log out of the app. Return later. Everything stays just as you left it. Each terminal session preserves its precise state — including scrollback, ongoing tasks, and agent conversations — so when users restart their machines and come back hours later, they can smoothly pick up right where they left off, saving an estimated 5 minutes with each reboot. This feature not only enhances productivity but also creates a more focused development environment, allowing developers to work without the anxiety of losing their progress. Ultimately, 1DevTool significantly contributes to a more efficient and stress-free development experience.
