What is Pacman?

Pacman serves as a package management system designed for Linux platforms, facilitating the installation and management of software. It utilizes simple compressed file formats for its packages and maintains a textual database that organizes information in a way that allows for manual modifications when necessary. Instead of trying to provide every possible feature, Pacman prioritizes essential tasks like installing, removing, and updating software packages, while also allowing users to query the package database for details on installed software, including their files and ownership information. Additionally, it aims to automatically handle dependencies and can download packages from online repositories. With the release of version 2.0, Pacman introduced the ability to synchronize packages with a central server through package databases using the -sync option, a notable upgrade from previous versions that required manual installation using --add and -upgrade commands. This advancement significantly improved the user interface and made the process of maintaining updated software much more efficient. As a result, Pacman has become an essential tool for both novice and experienced users who want to streamline their software management tasks on Linux systems.

What is AppGet?

AppGet is a community-driven package manager that operates through GitHub, prioritizing security, automation, and ease of use. The entire process of moderation takes place on GitHub, enabling anyone to suggest modifications via pull requests that are carefully examined and sanctioned by our committed team. Users can easily install, update, or remove any application found in our vast library, no matter how it was initially acquired. Both the client software and the application repository are entirely open source and available on GitHub for public scrutiny. Our dedicated AppGet bots work continuously to ensure that our library is filled with the latest software releases. Each application hosted in AppGet's repository comes directly from its original creators, removing the need for users to hunt for download links across the internet. Moreover, AppGet utilizes metadata-only manifest files to streamline the review process for manifests and enhance security protocols. This unwavering dedication to transparency and safety positions AppGet as a trustworthy option for software management, making it a preferred tool for developers and users alike. By fostering an open environment, AppGet not only builds a robust package management system but also encourages community engagement and contribution.
