What is Pixacare?

Pixacare is an all-encompassing platform designed specifically for wound care management in the healthcare sector, integrating structured clinical documentation with cutting-edge AI for wound analysis. Its AI feature, known as WoundTrack II, is a certified Class IIa medical device that provides efficient calculations of wound surface areas and assesses tissue composition by utilizing calibrated photographs. In addition, the main Pixacare Application operates as a Class I medical device, allowing for the management of multiple wounds, facilitating remote patient follow-up via electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO), enabling secure messaging between care teams, and producing automated PDF reports that outline healing progress. The platform effectively integrates with hospital information systems using HL7, FHIR R4, and REST APIs, ensuring strong security measures are in place, such as single sign-on and two-factor authentication. Currently, Pixacare is operational in more than 70 healthcare facilities across six countries, aiding in chronic wound management, supporting recovery after surgery, and enhancing dermatological follow-up care. Moreover, Pixacare is available in multiple languages, including French, English, German, and Spanish, which allows it to cater to a wide array of healthcare settings. This multilingual capability significantly broadens its accessibility, ensuring that diverse patient populations can benefit from its innovative features.

What is HL7 FHIR?

FHIR is described as a 'RESTful' framework, which corresponds with the broader industry understanding of REST principles. However, it mainly operates at Level 2 of the REST Maturity Model in its fundamental specifications, while full Level 3 compliance can be achieved through the integration of extensions. As a standardized framework, FHIR depends on the consistency of resource structures and interfaces, which some critics might argue is at odds with REST's foundational concepts; nevertheless, this standardization is essential for ensuring effective interoperability among diverse systems. Each distinct "resource type" comes with a specific set of interactions, enabling meticulous resource management. Applications that claim to comply with this framework identify as "RESTful FHIR," highlighting their commitment to these established standards. Moreover, within this RESTful architecture, transactions are conducted directly on server resources through HTTP requests and responses, reinforcing the framework's functionality and integrity. This organized methodology not only boosts interoperability but also simplifies the development process for applications leveraging FHIR, ultimately leading to more efficient healthcare solutions. Additionally, the clarity provided by FHIR's structured approach helps developers focus on creating robust applications that can easily integrate with existing health information systems.
