What is RSMeans?

In the construction industry, RSMeans data is renowned for its comprehensive cost details, a reputation it has upheld for many years. Founded by civil engineer Robert Snow Means, he meticulously compiled construction costs in a collection of leather-bound volumes created at his home. His skill in tracking expenses related to equipment, materials, and labor garnered admiration from his colleagues during the 1940s, leading many to seek to purchase his "cost books." Today, Gordian provides RSMeans data, which features over 92,000 distinct line items. Each year, cost engineers dedicate more than 30,000 hours to verifying and researching these costs to ensure their accuracy. While this essential cost information remains accessible in printed books, it is also offered through innovative estimating software that enhances usability. Construction costs encompass expenses for materials, labor, and equipment, and can be examined at both the unit and assembly levels. Furthermore, RSMeans Data Online serves as a cloud-based platform, enabling users to access localized construction costs conveniently, making it an invaluable resource for industry professionals. The evolution of this data has transformed how construction costs are approached and managed today.

What is PreConstruct AI?

PreConstruct AI is a web-based platform tailored for construction takeoff and estimating, specifically aimed at subcontractors involved in bidding for projects related to interior finishes, concrete work, and wood framing, all derived from PDF drawings. The application adeptly interprets scales from the drawings and employs plan notes, schedules, and partition legends to accurately identify and measure quantities for essential elements like walls, ceilings, and concrete structures. Currently in its beta phase, the AI-enhanced wall recommendations are provided for the estimator's review and adjustment before receiving final approval. After quantities are verified, they are converted into comprehensive material lists that detail necessary items such as studs, boards, insulation, tape, compound, paint, concrete, and rebar, including relevant calculations and references to the drawing sheets. Estimators can also input their own pricing for materials, create proposal PDFs, and export data in Excel or CSV formats, offering versatility in their workflow. The application supports various unit systems including imperial, metric, or a combination of both, catering to diverse project needs. Moreover, it optimizes estimating workflows, empowering estimators to thoroughly assess measurements and quantities prior to submitting bids, thereby ensuring precision and thoroughness in their proposals. This advanced capability not only simplifies the estimating process but also contributes to a more efficient overall project management experience.
