What is RightsManager?

FileOpen's digital rights management (DRM) system acts as a control layer that operates within commonly used formats and software applications. This platform includes features like document encryption, client-side decryption tools that work with a wide array of viewer applications, and server software that uses a publicly available control protocol, which can also be adapted for bespoke solutions. By employing encryption methods that meet established industry standards, FileOpen follows the specifications outlined for each format. For example, when working with PDFs, it utilizes AES-256 to align with PDF (ISO 32000) 2.0, while using RC4-128 for earlier PDF iterations. In the case of Microsoft Office documents, AES encryption is applied in accordance with Microsoft's add-in API layer. Access to documents encrypted with FileOpen is strictly regulated by the publisher's PermissionServer, which can dictate a range of permissions, including but not limited to printing, editing, copying, annotating, signing, saving changes, and implementing additional restrictions. This comprehensive control framework ensures that publishers retain significant authority over the distribution and utilization of their documents, fostering a secure environment for content management. Moreover, the flexibility of the system allows for tailored compliance with diverse organizational needs, reinforcing confidence in document security.

What is DRACOON?

Project managers have the capability to independently set up data rooms and manage user permissions, which reduces the workload on the IT department and boosts the overall productivity and effectiveness of various teams. By giving all employees access to the latest documents within DRACOON data rooms, the system effectively eliminates the chances of file duplication and promotes smooth collaboration among internal staff and external partners. The platform simplifies project management through user rights settings and establishes deadlines for file approval requests. Furthermore, DRACOON adheres to GDPR regulations by enabling the secure transfer of encrypted file attachments and entire emails via Outlook. With a strong focus on end-to-end encryption, including client-side encryption, DRACOON ensures an exceptional level of data security. This robust protection means that even service providers or administrators cannot decrypt your information, as the encryption key is exclusively held by the data owner. Unlike many other service providers, DRACOON's stringent security measures showcase its unique advantages. As a result, organizations can securely handle sensitive information while enhancing collaborative efforts among team members and partners alike. Ultimately, this approach not only safeguards data but also fosters a more trustworthy environment for all stakeholders involved.
