What is SURDEV?

In 2001, a partnership among the International Institute for Land Reclamation and Improvement (ILRI), Wageningen Environmental Research, and the Institute of Land and Water Management of the Catholic University of Leuven (ILWM) in Belgium resulted in the development of the SURDEV software suite. This suite comprises three distinct programs: BASDEV, which is suited for level basins; BORDEV, crafted for sloping borders; and FURDEV, aimed at graded furrows. Surface irrigation relies on gravity to effectively spread water across agricultural landscapes. As gravity acts on the water, it flows from one end of the field to the other, allowing for gradual infiltration into the soil. Among the various techniques utilized in surface irrigation, level basins (which can feature level furrows), sloping borders, and sloping furrows stand out as the most commonly implemented methods, all designed to ensure efficient water delivery. The key objective of these irrigation strategies is to provide crops with water in accurate quantities, at ideal times, and consistently, promoting uniform growth while reducing water loss. Additionally, the thoughtful implementation of these methods can contribute to enhanced agricultural efficiency and environmental sustainability, ultimately benefiting farmers and ecosystems alike.

What is AquaFlow?

AquaFlow, the free software provided by Toro for designing drip irrigation systems, offers irrigation designers a sophisticated tool aimed at maximizing system efficiency. The recent update of AquaFlow introduces improvements in speed, dependability, and security when compared to previous versions, along with enhanced compatibility with various web browsers. Additionally, it guarantees that users adhere to Toro's operational guidelines concerning emission devices. Now available as a mobile application for both Apple and Android platforms, the AquaFlow app presents a fresh and simplified method for streamlining the intricate drip irrigation design process. Furthermore, the newly launched AquaFlow app for tablets provides a more comprehensive and intuitive experience, as it works seamlessly across different devices, from tablets to desktops. Users can conveniently select laterals and submains, with immediate results available in organized tables and graphs, thereby making the design process more effective and user-friendly. This advancement marks a notable progression in democratizing irrigation design, allowing a broader range of users to engage with the technology. Ultimately, AquaFlow represents a significant leap towards enhancing accessibility and efficiency in the field of irrigation design.
