What is Sprites?

Sprites by Fly.io is a platform for creating stateful sandbox environments that run arbitrary code inside hardware-isolated Linux computers. A Sprite is designed to answer the question of where to safely run a blob of code, whether that code comes from an AI agent, a developer workflow, a user-uploaded binary, or an application process. Unlike short-lived stateless sandboxes, Sprites are persistent environments that can keep files, state, and execution context across runs. The platform supports checkpoint and restore so workloads can pause, resume, and recover without rebuilding everything from scratch. Sprites use a fast directly attached NVMe filesystem for active work and continuously sync that filesystem to durable external object storage. This storage model gives developers a normal Linux disk experience while supporting durable persistence and automatic growth. Developers can install the Sprites CLI, log in, create a Sprite, run commands, and connect directly to a Sprite console. The platform also provides a REST API and language support for JavaScript, Go, Elixir, and Python. Sprites include capabilities around persistence, checkpoints, Sprite URLs, sandbox VMs, and network policy for controlling how environments run and connect. Pricing is based on actual usage across CPU hours, memory hours, hot storage, and cold storage, making it practical for bursty workloads like coding agents or lightweight web apps. By combining hardware isolation, Linux compatibility, stateful persistence, checkpointing, durable storage, APIs, and usage-based billing, Sprites gives developers a flexible execution layer for AI agents, sandboxed code, and persistent application environments.

What is Agent Compute Engine?

Agent Compute Engine is a comprehensive compute service provided by Google Cloud that specializes in creating execution environments tailored for AI agents. Each AI agent functions within its unique hardware-isolated microVM, featuring a dedicated guest kernel and root-level management capabilities. Users can take advantage of functionalities such as quick startup, pausing, checkpointing, creating snapshots, and resuming workflows efficiently. To preserve agent files and context across various sessions, persistent workspaces are provided, while the platform employs copy-on-write memory sharing to support parallel environments derived from shared images. Agents are capable of executing code, running shell commands, and performing browser actions in secure sandboxes, with access to enterprise data tightly controlled through Google Cloud's networking and identity frameworks. Developers are empowered to personalize environment images, manage identity protocols, regulate network access, and supervise the lifecycle of their agents, all while Google manages the underlying compute infrastructure seamlessly. This platform is especially effective for applications such as interactive assistants, coding agents, browser tasks, and in-depth evaluation and reinforcement learning projects, demonstrating its adaptability and efficiency across a broad spectrum of AI applications. Moreover, by alleviating infrastructure concerns, this extensive management enables developers to concentrate on enhancing and refining their AI solutions more effectively. Consequently, the Agent Compute Engine stands out as a powerful tool for advancing the capabilities of AI-driven projects.
