What is Tana Inventory Management?

What is Shelf?

Shelf is an open-source software platform tailored for the management of assets and equipment, making it perfect for teams that require efficient lending, monitoring, and auditing of their physical gear. Each item can be easily tagged with a QR code or barcode, which users can scan with any smartphone—eliminating the need for specialized scanning devices—thus streamlining the check-in and check-out procedures while also keeping track of item ownership, locations, and return deadlines. The platform includes conflict-free reservation calendars that facilitate equipment booking, supports audits across various sites, allows for item grouping into kits, and keeps a detailed activity log for each asset. With dedicated applications for both iOS and Android, users can execute field scans, perform audits, and oversee custody, while the web application acts as the central hub for setup, reporting, and administrative functions. Offered under the AGPL license, users have the option to self-host using Docker or choose a managed cloud service for convenience. A free plan is available for individuals, while paid subscriptions unlock additional features such as bookings, team roles, and unlimited member support.
