What is WhoFi?

Overseeing a library requires significant dedication, yet WhoFi streamlines the workload by automating responsibilities that can distract from the mission of assisting patrons. Libraries and comparable community centers serve as more than just physical locations; they are essential centers for education, skills development, safe environments, remote employment, and crucial community interaction. A key goal for modern community centers is to secure reliable funding for high-speed WiFi access. To realize this goal, having precise data on WiFi usage is critical for providing reports to the governing board, creating grant proposals, and improving the overall visitor experience. By accurately measuring and analyzing WiFi metrics, you can greatly enhance the range of services your community facility offers. Insights into metrics like patron visit lengths, session counts, and the balance of new versus returning visitors are vital for effective strategic planning, day-to-day operations, advocacy, and program enhancements. Importantly, all these insights are gathered with a commitment to ensuring patron privacy and adhering to applicable privacy laws, fostering a respectful interaction with the community. In this way, by utilizing this valuable data, libraries can more effectively respond to the needs of their patrons, ensuring they remain relevant and supportive in a rapidly changing environment. Ultimately, the right tools can transform how libraries engage with their communities, paving the way for innovative solutions that enhance service delivery.

What is Journal Finder?

Journal Finder® is an all-encompassing solution that combines an A-Z list, link resolver, and electronic resource management (ERM) system into one user-friendly platform. It provides library patrons with straightforward access to electronic resources through an interface designed by librarians specifically to improve the overall user experience. Originally created in 2000 by the University of North Carolina - Greensboro team, Journal Finder was notable for being the first OpenURL Link Resolver launched in the United States. After its acquisition by WT Cox in 2008, the platform has ensured that all journal titles are accessible via a single point of entry. Users can reach these titles through multiple methods, such as electronic formats, print options, interlibrary loans, and document delivery services. The content list is automatically updated, eliminating server issues for libraries as it is hosted by WT Cox. This system is also highly customizable, allowing it to align seamlessly with the library's website while providing insightful management reports and a user-friendly administration interface for maintaining content. Furthermore, it acts as a foundational ERM tool for all electronic resources, enabling smooth transitions from citations in commercial databases to the library catalog or full-text articles in alternative databases. This capability not only improves accessibility for users but also fosters better management of resources within the library framework, ultimately contributing to a more efficient and streamlined research process.
