    Skype - Review

    Date: Jun 10 2020
    Summary

My experience with Skype is really good, Skype is the application that introduced video calling to me, it was widely used sometime back. Now there are a lot of other players in the domain who offer more valued service and features for a competitive price. Skype is obviously of the best but there are certain areas of improvement.

    Positive

(+) Great design, easy to work with.
(+) Syncing of contacts is good.
(+) Translation of speech from one language to another is a very cool feature.
(+) Good video and audio quality in most of the calls.
(+) Push to talk feature comes in very handy.
    (+) Screensharing is good.

    Negative

(-) Fails to work in low internet availability situations.
(-) No notification feature for unanswered calls.
(-) No consistency in calls. Lag in calls can be observed in some calls.
    (-) Pricing is a bomb.

    A tough choice.

    Date: May 24 2020
    Summary

I did my first video call with Skype and was the only app which came preinstalled in my Playstation Portable when I was a kid. It brings back those days whenever my family members call me through Skype.

Apart from the nostalgic value, it struggles to maintain its persona amidst an ocean of competitors in the same category.

    Positive

    (+) Chat experience is great.
    (+) Screen sharing works well.
(+) Video and sound quality are okay.
    (+) Conference calls are good.

    Negative

(-) Performance issues especially when using screen sharing feature.
(-) Minor stability issues. Sometimes, calls just end themselves even when internet connectivity is good.
(-) Huge number of alternatives that do this better.

Skype is okay but there are better alternatives

    Date: May 23 2020
    Summary

Skype used to be the industry standard for video conferencing, however there are so many more technically better applications such as Zoom and more convenient options such as FaceTime if you are an Apple user.

    Positive

It is good for video conferencing with one person. It was the industry standard at one point so you may have a large address book already compiled.

    Negative

Skype is good for if you want to speak with one person, however if you want to have a group meeting there are much better alternatives.
