Would actually like to run everything in true as, has been very good for me for the past few years, only once had an issue with a very common hba stopping to be supported after an update, something that could've been my fault since it doesn't make any sense I admit, swapped it out for a cheap one of the jungle site and everything has been going fine since.

You can do everything with it. Even though it's sold as a NAS solution, out of laziness and power management I have moved everything to run on my NAS.

I was looking for some free and good way to start of with on my home storage.
I needed to expand and didn't want to buy more NAS's as i had an extra old PC.
I googled some software and watched some reviews.
After watching how easy it is i decided to try it and wow was i amazed.
I'm happy with TrueNAS.

User friendly.
Free to use for home NAS.
Great apps.
Easy to run vm.
Easy to expand.
The list is just to big to write here.

Nothing bad i can think of.
It's just a breeze to use.

Honestly my experience with TrueNAS over the years has been far better than any storage solution I've used at any job. If I had decision making powers I would migrate out NetApp junk to something from ixsystems.

The stability and data integrity.
Plugins and more recently the Linux branch (Scale).
Docker support.
Growth and constant innovation.

Network stack can be a little wonky when you have multiple NICs.

Excellent server. I have no complaints which is rare ! :) I have been using TrueNAS for several years and it rarely needs any maintenance. It simple works and keeps working. Try it for yourself, simply download the ISO, load it into a VM or an old computer and have fun. You will be amazed at how much it can do.

They have a free version so you can play with it and learn how to use it effectively. Works well even with minimal resources. Even if you put it on an old computer to work as a home server, it works very well.

Really I don't know of any cons to TrueNAS it works great for what I do.

While getting started was a struggle for me many years ago, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have now been enjoying a rock solid NAS platform for over 9 years!

Comprehensive, scalable and customizable. Able to be set up to suit exactly what you a looking for in a NAS.

Steep leaning curve for a beginner but well worth the effort.

Trusty always on NAS that hosts all solutions that are needed in a home scenario. Enterprise was unfortunately not in my scope since my use case differs a little there.

Expandable to other technologies like Kubernetes / Docker. Without overwhelming the user of in depth cluster configs.

Especially on older hardware I found issues with the recent major release. Mostly regarding GPU passthrough.

It's a great solution, I myself have been using it for data backup and media hosting, so far it has served me well!

Lots of health and safety features like short and long smart tests, scrubbing, snapshots.
Published docker containers can directly be pulled and ran as applications.
Notification system that can email you when something goes wrong.

Stopping and starting applications can be buggy and sometimes can get stuck stopping.
Sometimes rebooting may not start kubernates applications.
Very few applications officially supported.

Very positive experience. I purchased a system from iXi and it has been solid and their support has been quick.

Easy to administer.
Robust data redundancy.
Plug- in store has many apps.
Responsive community who are quick to help.

No much. Designing my pool layout took some thought but you only have to do it once.

I really have enjoyed TrueNAS and recommend it to everyone who is interested in a NAS server. It has been a great experience.

I love the software raid that TrueNAS allows as well as how easy it is to setup docker containers with specific apps. I mainly use this for plex and it works perfectly.

Updating is easy and it's easy to install and setup.

I haven't seen any cons with this currently so I don't have much to say.

I've been using TrueNAS scale for about 1 year now. It's been rock solid, no issues. I use it as a development server as well as media (jellyfin) and I really have no complaints.

Fast and stable.
zfs configuration via user interface is very useful.
Reliable reporting.
Easy to setup app/charts.

User interface design isn't ideal, specifically setting up the charts/apps.

Very smooth experience with TrueNAS.
Everyone gets personal space for the digital assets.
I have our phones syncing photos with Nextcloud on TrueNAS, shared calendar and notes with the family.
We have a shared media library of videos.
Accessing from anywhere using VPN provides access to shared password safe.
Seamless updates keeps the system secure.
Recommend 100%

Simple file sharing for the home network.
Secure access from anywhere over VPN.
Additional productivity apps like Nextcloud.

Can't really complain about anything.
In the past i had to manage the additional apps, which has greatly improved with the new SCALE edition.
