Edith vs. Cambric

Edith provides a valuable service for authors seeking genuine feedback on their completed manuscripts before committing to substantial expenses for professional editing. She starts her process by delivering an editorial letter after thoroughly reviewing the entire novel, which can be up to 150,000 words, assessing the narrative's effectiveness and pinpointing critical areas that require enhancement for a mere $15, while the first 10,000 words are offered at no cost. After this initial evaluation, the detailed editing service, available for a one-time fee of $249, is divided into five distinct stages: developmental editing that hones in on plot, character, and pacing; structural editing aimed at refining scene and chapter arrangement; stylistic editing that meticulously examines the prose on a line-by-line basis; copyediting to ensure grammatical precision and uniformity while maintaining a running style sheet; and finally, proofreading to identify any residual mistakes. Throughout all these stages, clients are encouraged to engage in discussions via chat, fostering an interactive environment where questions and concerns can be addressed, closely resembling the experience of working alongside a human editor. Edith adopts a comprehensive approach that considers the manuscript as a whole while remembering your individual preferences at each stage of editing. Although she provides suggestions for enhancement, she avoids rewriting your original text, thereby preserving your distinctive voice and style. The final edited manuscript is returned in a Word document format, and you can be confident that your work will not be used for AI training purposes, safeguarding your intellectual property rights. This tailored editing experience is specifically crafted to empower writers and elevate their storytelling capabilities while nurturing a collaborative spirit that encourages growth and creativity.

Cambric is a specialized desktop application created for writers and independent publishers dedicated to producing text-based books. It includes a manuscript editor focused on chapters and a binder that helps in organizing various elements such as sections, chapters, and both front and back matter, while also offering a real-time view of formatted print pages. Users can start fresh projects or import existing DOCX manuscripts, utilize design templates for book interiors, and customize trim and layout parameters, all while evaluating typography, margins, chapter beginnings, page transitions, and other crucial aspects before finalizing their work for export. Moreover, Cambric enables the creation of print-ready PDFs and versatile EPUB 3 files from the same project, in addition to producing editable DOCX outputs. This software is particularly suited for genres that rely on chapters, including novels, memoirs, narrative nonfiction, and poetry, and it is designed to operate on 64-bit versions of both Windows and macOS. Authors retain complete control over their project files locally and can upload their completed works to their chosen publishing platforms, as Cambric does not participate in the distribution of books. Ultimately, Cambric provides an efficient and streamlined approach for authors who are looking for a thorough solution to their book formatting challenges, ensuring that the entire publishing process is as seamless as possible. In this way, it empowers writers to focus on their craft while handling the technical aspects of book production with ease.
