What is Yahoo Scout?

Yahoo Scout is a cutting-edge search tool powered by AI that combines insights from Yahoo's vast data assets, unique content, and the wider internet to deliver straightforward and concise answers, enriched with contextual details and clear source references. This platform effectively blends traditional search techniques with generative AI functionalities and is available as both an independent web application and integrated into several Yahoo services like Yahoo Search, Mail, News, Finance, and Sports, functioning as a unique search engine and an intelligence hub for everyday online tasks. By leveraging sophisticated technologies, including Anthropic's Claude and Microsoft Bing's grounding API, Scout provides relevant responses, well-structured content, captivating media, and actionable insights while prioritizing the original sources for further exploration and verification. The main objective of Scout is to improve user discovery by offering swift AI-generated summaries along with key links that lead users to trustworthy content, rather than simply wrapping up with an automated reply. In this manner, Scout not only aids users in efficiently locating information but also fosters a greater engagement with credible sources, ultimately enriching the online experience. With its user-friendly interface, Scout stands out as an essential tool for those seeking to navigate the vast landscape of information available today.

What is Apache Pulsar?

Apache Pulsar is a cloud-oriented distributed messaging and streaming platform that was originally created at Yahoo! and is now acknowledged as a top-level project by the Apache Software Foundation. Its deployment is notably simple, thanks to a lightweight computing model and intuitive APIs that remove the need for users to manage their own stream processing systems. With over five years of production use at Yahoo!, Pulsar has proven its capability to handle millions of messages per second across a multitude of topics. Designed from the ground up as a multi-tenant architecture, it inherently supports critical features such as isolation, authentication, authorization, and quota management. Furthermore, it offers the ability to configure data replication across data centers situated in diverse geographical locations. Pulsar's persistent message storage, which leverages Apache BookKeeper, provides guaranteed IO-level isolation for writing and reading operations, enhancing system performance. Additionally, a RESTful admin API is available, which aids in the provisioning, management, and monitoring processes. This unique blend of functionalities positions Apache Pulsar as a powerful and reliable solution for contemporary messaging and streaming requirements, ensuring it meets the demands of various applications and industries.
