    I am highly likely to switch to a different company when I have time to try another. Until then I’ll carry on using DeskTime, and hopefully they might fix things before I switch.

    I am able to track the hours I work on each customer’s projects and bill each customer accurately, including with screenshot logs

    Negative

    1. There is de facto no iOS app, since it prohibits long passwords, so I can’t login to it (despite being able to login no problem on the Windows app); whereas I want to be able to log project time on the move when I don’t have my laptop switched on.
    2. On Windows it can only take screenshots every 5 minutes which is WAY too long! Every 5 seconds would be my preference, or even better a screen recording.
    3. I used DeskTime 6 years ago and I believe at the time you could edit your application title logs but now it looks like you can’t.
    4. The new interface is somewhat clunky, with the same information visible on multiple different pages, sometimes with different information mixed in.
    5. It is very difficult to know when a project is started because the system tray icon for idle and running are too similar; they should probably be different colours or flash when idle. This means that I often forget to start or stop a project.
    6. When idle it continues taking screenshots and logging application titles, unless you enable private time; whereas I want to disable screenshots and tracking on idle. This means that when I show my customers their report, they’re seeing my YouTube videos etc in their log - not good!

    Thank you for your review! Your honest feedback is very important to us. We wanted to address a few things that you mentioned. Our developer team is already aware that our iOS app has different password requirements than our desktop app. They're already working on a fix for this, but at the moment, we don't have any estimates when this will be implemented. In DeskTime, screenshots can be taken at a random time within a 3, 5, 10, 15, or 30-minute intervals. This can be changed in your Settings. And regarding your last point, DeskTime isn't tracking any data during Idle time. Please note that Idle time is when no actions have been made on the keyboard or mouse for more than 3 minutes (the Idle time period could be longer, depending on account settings). If you're using your computer, but don't want to be tracked, you can either start Private time or quit the app completely. You can also set specific Tracking times in Settings > Team Members > click on the user > Tracking days. That way, DeskTime will track only within those set times.

    Amazing Activity Tracker for Monitoring Remote Users

    This is a great product and I look forward to using it often. The pricing is low compared to other options out there. Since the machine uses an agent more detailed data is pulled into the console.

    This tool is great and is pretty accurate when it comes to verifying idle time. I also like the ability to see machine names of servers acceded using RPD client. Simply hover over any application used and you can see more details for each application.

    As a project manager, desktime helps me figure out authenticity of the time invested by our resources in different projects and it helps me have a birds eye view on the actual efforts and productivity without having to do many things manually.
    The automation that it brings in is really rewarding to me and i use at times as a performance measuring tool as well.

    1) Data is well distributed between projects and teams.
    2) The KPI cards are very meaningful and it lets you figure things out without getting into details pretty much.
    3) Ability to go private when required.
    4) Ability to request offline time.
    5) Ability to define which apps are productive per team.
    6) Daily reports to create a reward system sort of projection among managers as to who are the most productive employees.
    7) View your own performance as well as standing with other resources in the company.
    8) Ability to define and track resources who use unwanted, unethical websites or unproductive apps as well.

    Negative

    1) Somehow, a tracking system among employees/resources is never really appreciated. Having an app run in the background and track you freaks most of the new joiners out post onboarding.
    2) A little bit of complexity while dealing with reports.

    My DeskTime Review

    Summary

    Although I eventually went with a different piece of software, I would recommend Desktime if it fits your needs. Because I was having attendance issues, I need to have my people clock in and out plus track when they've been idle and I really had a hard time with Desktime for that.

    However, if you're looking for something that helps you track productivity, this is definitely the one to go with. I've literally tried all the other software and I would say hands down, this is the best to track productivity.

    What I really liked about Desktime was the real-time (or at least almost real-time) dashboard of who was online or who wasn't (compared to other software that I tried). Also the auto logging in is a good feature that's also not available on other platforms. There's some cool stuff like a team resource area where you can see all the people in your org and that's helpful if you don't have a central area to put up that information. Also, the productive monitor is probably the best so far out of all the platforms I've tried. It lets you know who's doing questionable things and takes screenshots so you can remediate ASAP. It's also the least expensive option with tiered discounts for higher volume of seats which is a nice bonus.

    Negative

    One thing that I didn't like was also the auto-login. I actually wanted to turn it off so that I could make sure my people weren't logging in when they weren't actually working (all my employees work remotely on their own personal computers). It was a little confusing when it come break down between online time, desktime time and idle time. I needed my system to track their time and I had to manually look at when they logged in and out so that was cumbersome.

    Summary

    I would recommend DeskTime, especially for a smaller business. It is a great source for individual records and overall tracking with various options to focus on.

    Positive

    A feature I like and find useful are the screenshots. It has been beneficial to go back for review and find information that was not thought of to be important at the time and was not saved or documented. The screenshots give a clear and accurate of overlooked information. It's great and convenient.

    Negative

    For some reason, there are times when DeskTime will just disappear from the desktop. It will still be downloaded but myself or other employees will have to go and install it again. This doesn't happened often but when it does, it can go unnoticed for a good portion of a day or more.
    Thankfully, we are able to fix times as needed.
