What is Novato?

Novato functions as a specialized compliance platform designed for Australian general contractors who manage subcontractors in the construction sector, simplifying operations by replacing spreadsheets and manual license checks with a comprehensive, audit-ready solution. The system actively verifies subcontractor trade licenses against up-to-date state registers in Australia, such as those in NSW and QLD, with intentions to broaden its reach, while also flagging licenses that may expire before project completion, thereby facilitating proactive compliance. Beyond license oversight, Novato introduces features like AI-generated Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), validation of Right to Work documents, digitized asbestos registers, machinery and equipment tracking, health and safety management plans, psychosocial hazard reporting as per Part 6A, toolbox talks, incident reporting, and processes for site induction. Tailored to accommodate the varied regulatory demands of different states, including particular OHS/WHS regulations in places like Victoria and Western Australia, Novato equips contractors with the tools necessary to confidently verify that all subcontractors on-site adhere to licensing and insurance standards, as well as undergo proper induction and comply with applicable regulations. By doing so, Novato seeks to foster greater transparency and accountability within the compliance framework of the construction industry, ensuring that contractors can effectively manage their obligations and enhance overall project safety. As a result, the platform not only safeguards compliance but also contributes to a more efficient and organized construction environment.

    Date: Aug 29 2026
    Summary

makes compliance and reporting simple, organised, and easy to manage.one click I can see how compliance is progressing on a project

    Positive

I really liked Novato because it makes compliance and reporting feel much simpler and more manageable. The platform is easy to use, well organised, and saves a lot of time compared with handling everything manually. I also liked how straightforward it is to keep track of requirements and stay on top of compliance. Overall, it’s a practical tool that makes a complicated process much easier.

    Negative

Doesn’t connect to myob making it a little harder to sort bills out but I did see the do support Xero perhaps they might support myob one day.

Great Compliance Automation, but Lacks Key Integrations

    Date: Aug 12 2026
    Summary

Novato is a niche, highly effective Australian SaaS platform designed specifically for general contractors to automate subcontractor compliance and workplace health and safety (WHS).

    Positive

Directly pulls real-time data from state databases (like NSW Fair Trading) rather than relying on static or uploaded file. Flags credentials and insurances that are set to expire before a project finishes, preventing lapsed compliance.

    Negative

It lacks native integrations with major Australian construction ERPs or accounting software like Xero or MYOB, requiring manual data handling across systems.
