What is Tab?
Tab is an AI-powered personal assistant that allows users to delegate tasks, manage activities, and complete online transactions through text messages. The service is designed to perform actions on behalf of users rather than limiting its functionality to answering questions or generating recommendations. Users can request assistance with booking flights, modifying hotel reservations, scheduling appointments, purchasing replacement parts, and completing other everyday tasks. Tab supports natural-language instructions and accepts photos, screenshots, PDF documents, and videos as additional inputs. Its document and media capabilities include extracting information, converting PDFs into spreadsheets, creating files, editing images and video clips, and generating new images, audio, and video. The assistant has access to its own computer and browser environment, enabling it to navigate websites, complete online forms, and work with accounts that users choose to connect. Tab can also place telephone calls to businesses, wait on hold, ask questions, and report the results through the user's messaging conversation. Its persistent conversational context helps maintain continuity between interactions, reducing the need for users to explain previous requests or ongoing tasks repeatedly. For assignments requiring additional time, Tab can continue working after the user leaves the conversation and provide short updates as progress is made. When purchases, reservations, or invoice payments involve spending money, the assistant presents the item or service, total cost, and payment recipient for review before requesting authorization. Following an approved transaction, Tab can provide receipts, communicate confirmation details, and track subsequent developments within the same message thread.

Great message based personal AI agent
Date: Oct 08 2026SummaryOverall, Tab feels much closer to a real personal assistant than a traditional chatbot. The combination of texting, computer use, phone calls, memory, payments, and background task execution makes it one of the more practical agent products I have tried.
PositiveWhat I like most is how little friction there is. I can just text Tab the same way I would text an assistant and ask it to actually get something done instead of giving me a list of instructions. The computer-use side is where it gets really useful. Tab can open websites, work with connected accounts, create files, make phone calls, and keep working after I leave the conversation. That makes it useful for things like reservations, travel changes, purchases, research, and random admin tasks that normally eat up time. I also like the payment approval flow. Tab can prepare a purchase or booking, but I still see the exact amount and recipient before anything gets paid.
NegativeThe main downside is that I would still be careful about how much access I give it. Tab has clearly thought about security — credentials and payment details are kept outside the normal AI context, and uncertain actions are supposed to stop rather than repeat automatically — but an agent this capable still deserves supervision.
