I have had very few reasons for support but when it was needed the support was great! Looking forward to when we can use AD for logging into the web interface.

Stability and versatility and moving to scale will make it even better! Also I love the development path and the ability to scale out in the future.

All the cons that I had for TrueNAS will be fixed in scale. Moving to kvm for virtualization and inclusion of helm for containers.

Installation and setup was very straightforward and easy. The UI is structured and clear and was easy to use. Creation of a storage pool, volume and share took me just a few minutes. The performance on a mapped network share on windows was very good, even while using very basic PC hardware and just two old SATA HDDs for the NAS. On another system where I used even older hardware one of the drives failed. The resilver was easy and worked just fine. No data was lost.

The gap from a free install to a payed solution with hardware is quite big.
There is no SMB option that is cheap enough to compete with solutions like Synology or QNAP NAS.

I have been using this since the mid 2000's, it is by far one of the best platforms for NAS software in the market. It can do basically anything you want. They only limitation is what hardware you use.

Where to start? Want built in containers to run apps like plex or a VPN? They got you covered. Just want a plain ol' NAS to store all your files? They got that covered six ways to Sunday.

TrueNAS can be a little complicated to setup compared to others like Synology but it is MUCH more powerful.

Running an enterprise, TrueNAS Scale provides everything that is advisable to have, it really brings to life all the services that are necessary to be considered modern, starting from the data safety.

I have been using TrueNAS Scale for several months.

It is built around ZFS filesystem, which is currently the best option to keep your data safe in time.

It also ships with tons of useful apps, provided by the community and by other partners.

It is often a bit difficult to manager and counterintuitive, it is better to be used by proffesionals or at least people eager to learn, like me.

I'm using this system quite a while on my home-built NAS running on a Proxmox VM and I haven't encountered any issues so far.

Even the free version is still highly customisable and fulfil the latest requirements. Most of the advanced features are available and easy to setup.

Some setup (access control) need more research and additional knowledge.

SSH terminal has limited functions.

Overall the experience has been good. I wish it had more plugin options but there are plenty of support available through YouTube channels etc.

There is a lot of cool features. It simple, updates regularly, easy interface, works with wide variety of tech.

Advanced work require a bit more knowledge. Samba has been a little flakey but seems improved with v13.

Legacy NVIDIA drivers not supported, could be useful for old graphic cards.

I have been using TrueNAS for a few years now since TrueNAS Core, I have had no issues with it and the migration from Core to Scale was seamless.

Easy to use the GUI/Dashboard, super reliable product, TrueNAS Scale works so well with integrating the docker containers, can run on older equipment.

Overall, it is an excellent product.

The only thing I would like to see is having more docker apps available built from the IX team.

User interface to create VM is rather difficult and tedious.

Given the specialized use case in this deployment (backing up multiple Synology units over s3 into independent buckets) this is pretty useful.

Pretty versatile options for data sharing with SMB, NFS, RSYNC, and S3 options. Pretty good performance available with the addition of metadata vdevs and relatively cheap optane nvme's

Permissions could be handled better.
The UI could use some additional effort in the look and feel area.

The interface is very good so far, I have explored a small amount and will continue delving into containerised workload solutions.

Very good NAS appliance for home or small business use, I use NetApp and similar devices in my job and TrueNAS offers most of the facilities you actually need at a lower cost.

Overall, it has been a great adventure. I am taking my time at configuring my hardware and with the installation of pools and jails. Very satisfying to have so much support and, as a newbie, to set sale with this product.

Lots of help online. Especially appreciate the YouTuber "Black Beard" and his tutorials. he has been my primary teacher.

I've been Using TrueNAS / FreeNAS for a VERY long time...over a decade. Very happy with the product. In fact, I've never EVER lost data. A lot of people and businesses I know have lost data with even traditional hardware RAID. Not once with TrueNAS.

All-in-all, I have made a right decision by choosing TrueNAS as my Home/Family data server, and will suggest it for anyone who likes to control a reliable server for its data.

I've been using TrueNAS Core server for about 4 months now.
It serves a home storage role for me and my girlfriend. Hopefully in the near future, I will persuade our two families to also accept it, so that our valuable data can have the needed care.
This will also allow me to upgrade it, and use much more of what TrueNAS has to offer.

Without too much experience in this regard, since it is my first server, I will nevertheless be honest, and admit that after a month, there was no reply to my ticket on the TrueNAS forum.
There really are a lot of resources, but they are scattered across the web, many of them being related to an old, FreeNAS product.
Interface and guides, for better ease-of-use, are the main things that I would like to be improved. Of course, being a community supported version of TrueNAS, that has its real limits. But I believe that community will grow in the near future.

Amazing product I just used it on an old PC that I use as a server for my home, it's free easy to get into and plenty of help online with this.

Looking forward to seeing what it becomes.
