Amazing service and an excellent tool for working with an organization that has lots of systems, servers, network equipment, and more.

PRTG is an amazingly simple tool that helps monitor all the equipment we have in our organization.
With this system, in any malfunction or crisis, we can quickly diagnose the source of the problem and solve it in an instant.
We have configured all the servers and equipment in the system and it knows how to give us a quick look as soon as something happens.
And that way, we can diagnose the problem quickly.

The price is very expensive and not suitable for every organization, which is a shame.
If the price were more affordable, maybe more organizations would purchase it.

I’ve been using PRTG Network Monitor for my home and homelab setup, and it has far exceeded my expectations. The installation process was straightforward, and the setup was a breeze—simply adding a device allows PRTG to auto-discover relevant sensors, making the monitoring process essentially plug-and-play.

What makes PRTG stand out for home or small-scale use is its user-friendly interface and robust features. For someone with a homelab, the automatic network discovery and pre-configured monitoring templates eliminate most of the complexity. I was up and running in no time, with real-time monitoring of devices and proactive alerts when something goes wrong.

Moreover, PRTG’s ability to map out connected devices visually is incredible. It delivers insightful overviews and dashboards that make it so much easier to monitor the health of my network. For home setups, where we’re often on a budget, the freeware plan (up to 100 sensors) is more than sufficient to cover the essentials.

Overall, PRTG has proven to be reliable, feature-rich, and surprisingly simple to use, making it an excellent tool for network monitoring at any scale—from home enthusiasts to larger environments.

Advice: know what you want to monitor or you'll run out of sensors ;-)

PRTG is the go-to monitoring tool for industry professionals and for very good reason. Setting up as a first time user can be a learning curve however with plenty of documentation and great customer support, it's pretty simple.

The ability to create maps and have monitoring dashboards is very useful to monitor critical systems. The entire system eco is fantastic with clear roadmaps to create a more streamlined product with their new dashboard.

Having custom map icons is very simple, however having active sensors showing on the map icons is extremely difficult to setup and is not supported by PRTG at the time of writing this review, for our specific use case for PRTG, this would be great. That said, the dynamic icons for provided with PRTG are very good and have always covered every use case I've ever needed throughout my career.

We've been using PRTG for several years now, and it has become an essential part of our IT operations. That said, the management of lookups could be improved — editing configuration files manually on the probe isn’t very user-friendly. A dedicated interface would make this process much smoother. Additionally, the map editor lacks confirmation prompts, making it easy to lose work with a single wrong click. Some extra validation steps would greatly enhance usability and prevent accidental deletions.

Despite these points, PRTG remains a highly valuable and well-supported solution, with an active community and responsive technical support.

We've had a very positive and satisfying experience with PRTG over the years. We've been using the product for several years now, and it's proven to be the perfect solution for monitoring our network infrastructure and applications.

PRTG is intuitive and well-designed, making it easy to create detailed dashboards and maps that give us a clear visual representation of the status of critical machines and services. The notification system is also very well thought out, allowing us to react quickly to any anomalies.

At this point, we honestly can’t imagine working without PRTG — it’s become a central part of our IT operations.

What I like less about the software is the way lookups are managed. It could be more user-friendly — right now, you have to manually edit text files directly on the probe, which isn't very convenient. There should be a dedicated interface for this, similar to how thresholds are managed.

Also, the maps feature feels a bit limited, and there's a lack of confirmation prompts when deleting items. One wrong move and you can lose everything you've built. There should be more validation steps when modifying maps, especially for deletions. Just hovering over an item and accidentally clicking the trash icon can wipe out your work in an instant…

One of the best monitor tools out there, Versatile, Robust, good customisation and easy to implement in any environment.

The number of sensor types is outstanding.
Not just SNMP but a multitude of standard sensor imputs are possible as well as custom scripts in various formats.
The remote probe is great for multitenant or remote sites.

Hardware Scaling of large PRTG installations is something to plan ahead for

Overall PRTG keeps us instantly up to date about any outages or incidents on our network. Its great integration capabilities with PagerDuty and Jira are great so we can keep track of incidents and outages.

PRTG Monitoring Website could be a bit nicer looking but other than that everything is great!

Overall, I don't want to use any other monitoring platform after using this. Adding additional sensor licenses, even adding an additional probe for segmented networks, or for more capacity is a breeze. Their support is also very responsive and knowledgeable...and you cannot beat the price.

Setting up new monitors is extremely simple and the product is very robust. This product makes handling SNMP monitoring very simple, and the pre-built sensors for most items just work right out of the box with very little configuration.

I wish the visual maps that you can create had a better interface, but they are still better than any other monitoring platform I have used.

Excellent platform. Well priced and works exactly as advertised. We rely on this heavily for notifications and it's never failed us.

UI is sometimes hard to navigate, options can sometimes be buried or hard to find.

It's easy to deploy the server and remote probes and gets a lot of info with the first discovery and then with recommended sensor. With maps you quickly recognize where is the problem

Dashboards, maps, easy to setup: this is the best solution if you want to keep under control all of your devices such as workstations, switches, virtual machines, firewalls. Set warning and alert limits so you can get notifications

They should add more sensors without be forced to use powershell scripts.
There are still many devices from important producers that cannot be easily enough put under control

I feel at home using PRTG although there was a bit of a learning curve at first. Pleased with the regular updates and the support has been very helpful with any problems or questions that we've put to them. Everything we need to monitor via HTTPS and SNMP has worked very well.

Simple layout; easy to add more devices and sensors; ability to make any page your start page; SMS alerts easy to implement.

Takes some time to get acquainted; Map feature requires MS Visio-oriented mind to make something out of it; the internal db should be some sort of SQL instead of "millions of files"; The failover HA solution is a bit too home made - us enterprise users would like shared SQL DB's or other truly HA as an option; AD integration works but administering AD users and their rights isn't perfect.

Well we are exploring its hidden features, and we have succeed in various aspect through PRTG API.

As it covers all aspects of network monitoring, easy to install and work on snmp. Covers all switch routers firewalls. servers.

Also its API make it very strong software.

as no one is complete perfect so they are releasing upgradation to older one by fixing issues.

I think we can not integrate PRTG with Grafana.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the service that PRTG offers and support is great as well.

Their support is top notch. The product works well for on-prem deployments, and its customization, as well as native vendor integrations are impressive.

If you can query it, you can monitor it. Creating new, custom monitors for SNMP, as well as windows/Linux scripts works very well. They have many native integrations with all of the vendors that we utilize.

It is very easy to overwhelm your monitoring node. It should be harder to do this. Fortunately if this does occur it is easy to change scanning intervals for all the heavy hitting monitors with less than 10 clicks.

Mainly for network monitoring, the drawing function is relatively basic, and the topology drawing function is single.

I recommend the use of the tool in both very large and very small environments, my suggestion is that you try a trial version and install less than 100 devices to monitor, if you have the opportunity to monitor Cisco switches with the NETFLOW protocol and sensor it is a great experience

Its an It is a great monitoring tool, its installation is very easy to achieve as are the sensors inside the tool. To me it is a sensational tool in the observability part since it allows us to anticipate future events, especially in the network part, if you implement the netflow sensor you have a complete x-ray of the network traffic and it allows you to make a capacity planner if you are falling short in your infrastructure.In addition, installing the agents (remote probe) to collect monitoring information for the servers is very easy.

There should be more options for cloud services, if you want a solution that is not on premise. They only offer service with AWS and it is not fully managed by the Paessler company, which generates many points of failure. For additional tools like IT Ops Board or SLA Reporter they should offer more database options like MySql, Maria DB, etc and not just Microsoft SQL Server

I'm building 2 monitoring systems with PRTG 10K sensors.
It's been relatively easy to discover the network and the alarming is reliable and very quick to appear.
I highly recommend using this monitoring software, because it's easy to implement and has an intuitive interface for any type of user.
Of course, there are improvements to be made... because nothing is ever perfect.

1. It doesn't have the facility to export to .xls or .csv, various types of alarm tables or the equipment cadastre.
2. There is a lack of pre-configured sensors for some types of equipment, such as ARISTA.
